You’re notified

If your work appears in an AI training dataset, we’ll send you an email with the work included and a link to the AI dataset, so you can submit a takedown notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Lantern retain a copy of my art?

No, Lantern does not retain a copy of your art by default. Instead, we create a one-way fingerprint of your art. This identifier lets us search for your work in datasets, but cannot be used to reconstruct your art. You can optionally choose to allow Lantern to retain a small thumbnail of your work for a better dashboard experience.

Where does Lantern source datasets to scan?

Lantern automatically scans the AI websites Hugging Face and ModelScope for new datasets. We also can manually add datasets to our index, if you are aware of a new dataset that is not on Hugging Face/ModelScope please send us a message and we can ingest it.

How does Lantern work?

Lantern uses the open-source PDQ fingerprinting algorithm to generate fingerprints for your images (no images are sent to external servers), inspired by PhotoDNA and similar databases. We regularly ingest new publicly-available AI training datasets and notify you when your work appears.

What do I do after Lantern finds my work in a dataset?

Lantern will provide you with a link to the source dataset. There, you can submit a takedown/DMCA notice. (TODO link to guide for how to submit notices on HF/MS). Lantern does not automatically submit takedowns for you, you must submit these yourself.

How broad is Lantern’s search?

While we aim to search most publicly-available AI training datasets, large companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic use their own internal datasets rather than sets published on platforms such as Hugging Face. So Lantern is an attempt to notify you when your work appears in a publicly-available dataset, it is impossible to scan internal training datasets.

How much does Lantern cost?

Lantern is free to use, with generous watchlist limits to prevent abuse. Please message us on Discord if you need to scan more works.
